Celebrating the true spirit of Spring

In this rejuvenating season, Wendi Reis’ new exhibition at Beach Art, Thirroul, is full of life-affirming art that is drawn from the bright days approaching and the warm mysterious night.

Painting in Acrylics

Her art delves deeply into the surrealistic world of summer dreams on humid nights with strange but tempting visions of nocturnal birds and cloudy moonlit skies, suggesting that desire of everyone to see what is happening outside while we are safe in our beds. This series of paintings, including Strawberry Dusk Dreaming and Gum Flower Fantasy, combines her venture into a contemporary vein with her love of the more traditional nature. A pale spectral moon casts its light over the elements of the bush bringing them to life.

On a more traditional level

The renewal of springtime is portrayed in numerous bird images that capture the bright freedom of a life of flight without care. Our Australian icon, the much loved kookaburra, is present in many paintings. King parrots and crimson rosellas in rich luxuriant foliage appear so realistic that they could almost fly out of the paintings.

Ms Reis is well known for her paintings of the Illawarra area

She has again captured the peace and beauty of the coastline in a series of landscapes.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Ms Reis has a shelter for homeless animals. These rescued animals are restored to health, desexed and then rehomed wherever possible to caring families. In the past few years she and her husband have rehomed more than 200 animals. She actively campaigns for the humane treatment of animals both in Australia and overseas. Much of the money raised from the sale of her paintings is used for the veterinary care and feeding of these animals.
